Some facts about the General Motors Diet

The GM Diet has undoubtedly become a much known regime, associated with losing weight. But losing weight is a side-effect that has to be seen in the right context. To take an extreme example, an underweight person should not lose weight. But as is true about most things in this world, people tend to become dogmatic about certain things. Here, I try to bring forth certain aspects of the diet which will be worthy of keeping in mind - not just for people who trust this diet, but also for the naysayers.

  • This is NOT really a weight loss diet - Well, it's true that many people experience some loss in weight after following the GM Diet. But please bear in mind that weight is a combination of various factors, which include not just body fat and water, but also the state of your digestive system. Seven days are NOT enough to lose weight by any means. But, read on...
  • This diet helps cleanse the body of most people - Just go through the diet program once again to understand why. Remember this basic principle: Fruits are body cleansers and betterment catalysts whereas vegetables are generative agents. Seven days of natural, unspoilt food give your body enough of a chance to get back in shape. Think of this as a trip to the servicing station - only for your body, and not for you vehicle though. And like you vehicle's performance and mileage are enhanced after every trip to the service station, so does your body react to such cleansing activities.
  • There is no real substitute for exercises for weight loss - But, exercise is not just what happens inside of the gymnasium. Walking is as good as any other exercise, if managed with some thought. If you are one of those lucky people required to walk daily, tweak your walking activities to provide enough calorie-burning effects. Walk briskly. Take a different, longer route while moving from point A to point B. Start earlier and walk a bit more to office by getting off you cab slightly before your normal point, or getting into the bus a few stops after your regular stop. But, beware - be a safe walker! Climb the staircase, instead of taking the elevator. There are plenty of options!
  • Eat at the right time - This can not be emphasized enough! Two people with very similar diets can end up with different body weights and health conditions because of the way in which their bodies respond to food, apart from other environmental/mental conditions. But you can certainly give your body a chance to thank yourself by following this golden maxim - Breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, and dinner like a pauper. In another article, I'll try and bring out certain aspects of eating and timing.
  • Drink a lot of water - Your body is 70+% water. Your food too should be. Else, you are not eating right. Also, it's a huge mistake to drink cold water, especially after food. Drink/sip warm or hot water - especially after you've had food. At other times, you can drink normal water. Water alone can help you maintain good health (and, weight!)

If you follow the above regularly, the GM diet (or, really, any other good diet!) will help you maintain good health and an ideal weight!

This is my 3rd day on the GM diet and I'v only lost 1kg- I'm not overweight, I just want to slim down a bit for my cousin's wedding. Is this minimal weight loss normal?

This is my 3rd day of the diet too. n I have not seen any weight loss in my body. I am also not very overweight just wanna slim down for my own wedding.
Will I see any results in the coming 3 to 4 days??

usually u will se a wieght loss on 3rd day but if you have eaten fruits other than melons on the first and 3 rd day u will see results on 4th day.all the best

I have been looking if anyone talks about re gaining the lost weight. I know its temporary but is it that fast? by 8th or 9th day?

Well its my Day 2 but i am really struggling hard to keep a pace .......hope i would finish 7 Days and than post my experience

I am not overwt , and i just wanted to detoxify n slim down a bit more, this is my 6th day and i think i hv lost abt 5lbs. I am happy with the result , although still 2 more days to go , i hv been doing light exercise as well with it.

Today is my 4th day into the diet plan, Bananas and milk..I was dreading as I don't drink milk, but I had a home made banana shake and its great..I am feeling quite full..And i have already lost 1.5kg...yahoo

i have not started the diet yet but still i a m looking forward to it.i have to make myself strong and do it !!!!
just hope it works!.

This diet is very doable...Make sure you have enough time to rest...I am on fourth day....
It would be smooth ride after day 2....
Tip: Better be away from your mates during the meal :)...really tempts....

today is my first day and i am following the diet strictly...i had only watermelons throughtout the day...i am litttle overweight and wish to loose weight through this programme....just worried about the weakness...

Hey Smita may name is Vandana and I started today this plan. just wanted to share your thoughts. How do you feel ? Did you try wander soup. I have to make that but I am dreading it.

can we put any spices in this wonder soup? does it taste any good.? Can we replace it with ministrone soup ? almost the same ingedients excyept not that many onions ?

Today is my 7th day! I was 15 pounds over weight and wanted to loose a few pounds for a vacation I'm going on this Friday. Just got off the scale and I lost 12 lbs!!!! I didnt cheat at all which was amazing

how do you follow the diet my questions as follows kindly possible give the answar am a vegitarin evan i will not take egg also.

1. What are the vegetables we should avoid?

2.What type of milk and what type of banana or any type?

3.1 cup meant how many gms. Its cooked rice or uncooked rice and what type of rice What can I add along with the rice?
4. 6 whole tomato meant cooked or raw can I make soup the tomato and have it?

5. The above said ingredients for one day or one time 1 cabbage ment how many kg?

6. Can I have green tea every day during the program generally I have green tea 3 times in a day with out adding any thing

kindly give the answer the above questions so i can start at the earliest.

i am gonna start it on monday too.. i jus gained some extra kilos after marriage.. so need to shut them down.. exercising is becoming a tough job as i really dont find time.. hope this works...

Since I am a veggetarian, I had look for veggie recipes from http://www.gmdietworks.com – worked pretty well. Combining surya namaskara/Yoga really really helped

Day 1: Lost 0.5 lb
Day 2: Lost 2 lb
Day 3: Remained same
Day 4: lost 2 lb
Day 5: Lost .5 lb
Day 6: Remained same
Day 7: Lost 1 lb

Overall lost around 6-7 lbs and feeling a lot lot better

Is it permitted to have Tea or coffee twice a day ?

You are not supposed to take tea or coffe. But you can take some black coffe(without cream or sugar). I do not know about green tea

i just wana to know that can i replace one bowl of rice with 1-2 capatties (home made, without oil)

1. Can I eat chapati in a day if yes then how much.
2. Can drink cup of tea with sugar ones in a day.

Can we eat dry fruits on day 1 with fruits

no u should not eat dry fruits.. it has lot many fats..

Can we use  mango , cherry n licchi on day 1  with watermalon ?

this is my 2nd day.....on first i had fruits & water......but on 2nd day didnt like much of boiled vegetables so i only had carrots,1 green tea & plenty of water.....i didn't check my weight but i am feeling lighter......lets see where it goes....but i am avoiding friends company....:D

I searched for a Diet Plan some days back n was at some other page... I later realised that it was the GM motors diet plan... but Potato on Day 2 was missing in it... I started it 5 days back... Followed it well... Had some Veggie Delite salad from Subway on Day 2,3... Jog for 20-25 mins on day 2 and 40 mins aerobics on day 4, little walk on day 5 today... n I have already lost 4 KGs... Had 2 galsses of water just few mins before checking the wt... this thing works well... add a lil work out if u r obese... lil over wt can do this with lil walk...

i reduced weight 4kg in 7 days gm diet thanx to gm diet

Today is day 6 for me and there is significant weight loss for me. I started off 159.9 lbs and I am 152.2 now. The weight has also been constant since say 4 with a pound here or there as I weigh myself at different times of the day. However, day 5 was horrible as I had to eat rice and 6 tomatoes!(i will noto look at tomatoes the same way again..haha)But I had a question, during day 4 and 5 is it ok to eat vegetables through out the day or is it only one time and starve the rest of the day?
For future prospective diet triers--this works and everyone should do it too.

On day 4, you are supposed to have one bowl of cooked vegetables. You choose the size of the bowl! :)
Seriously, you'd know what amount is good for your body, and refrain from eating too much for the fear of feeling hungry.

You can have the Wonder Soup as many times as you wish to on all days. It's a very good part of the diet - something that keeps you from feeling hungry and hence having the urge to discontinue!

All the things should be had only one time in the day - unless the plan specifically mentions that you can have it multiple times. The plan has all the details step-by-step.

i am on my 3rd day of program (vegetarian). I have lost almost 1.5 kg already.

I m on my 4th day and besides losing 3kgs I m feeling good too. Wonderful.I will not be able to follw it on the 6th and 7th day as i am travelling.
Will do it again after a break.
