GM Diet - Commentary
Some comments on - and analysis of - the diet program
- NO - This is NOT a permanent diet recommendation! Just like you wouldn't die if you only lived on potato chips for 7 days (it'd be awful though!), your body doesn't starve of nutrients due to this diet. You are only doing some basic housecleaning here!

The most important element of the program is the 10 (ten) tall glasses of water a day. You can also flavour the water will some lemon to make the drink easier. While on the program, take only black coffee and never more than one teaspoon of oil. Preferably do not use oil because the high calorific content. No fruit juices before day seven.
Here is what happens to you body while you are on this program and how and why it works.
Day 1:You are preparing your system for the upcoming program. Your only source of nutrition is fresh fruits. Fruits are nature's perfect food. They provide everything you can possibly want to sustain life except total balance and variety.
Day 2:Starts with a fix complex carbohydrates in the form of a boiled potato. This is taken in the form of a boiled potato and taken in the morning to provide energy and balance. The rest of the day too consists of vegetables which are virtually calories free and provide essential nutrients and fibre.
Day 3: Eliminates the potato because you get your carbohydrates from fruits. Your system is now prepared to start burning excess pounds. You will have cravings, which should start to diminish by day four.
Day 4: Bananas and milk. You are in for a surprise. You probably will not be able to eat all the bananas allowed. But they are there for the potassium you have lost and the sodium you may have missed during the last three days. You will notice a definite loss of desire for sweets and you will be surprised at how easy this day will go.
Day 5: Rice and tomatoes. The rice is for the carbohydrates and the tomatoes are for the digestion and the fibre. Drinking a lot of water purifies your system. You should notice colourless urine today. If you do not feel like having one cup rice, you may eat less. But you may eat six tomatoes.
Day 6: It is similar to day five. Vitamins and fibre from the vegetables and carbohydrates from the rice. By now your system is in a total weight loss inclination. There should be a noticeable difference in the way you look today compared to day one.
Day 7: You may celebrate with champagne. You may also have white wine instead of champagne, but in all practical programs, and in all surveys done to measure the success of the program, General Motors employees have always preferred champagne to white wine.
More than one cup of coffee with milk is especially forbidden. Milk and oil add empty calories to your diet. Avid coffee lovers can console themselves with black coffee. However, after the first week, it will help your digestion and set your stomach. The key thing to remember is that if you are hungry at any time, then you are not following the diet correctly. Almost all people give up the diet when they are hungry because of dieting. The secret of this program is that you should never hungry. If it is a vegetable day, eat so much vegetables that you are never hungry. If it is a fruits day, eat so much fruits that you are never hungry. You may be bored of eating vegetables all day, but you should not be hungry. You can take any amount of General Motors wonder soup on any day.
- Is this diet bad for my health? Since this diet is structured in such a way that my body starves and does not provide my daily recommended share of nutrients!
Although this diet is not just for the overweight and unhealthy, it is certainly not for the underweight and starved! That said, please understand that our body is a wonderful entity which has enough reserves for sustaining itself for long periods. This diet is not about starving (note that it explicitly mentions that some foods in the menu can be had as much as you wish - the soup!) - but about cleansing your body.
To provide a simple analogy - consider any kind of filter. Your car's, or the water purifier's. If the filter is clogged, the system's efficiency goes down. Under such circumstances, the same amount of effort produces lesser than ideal filtering effect. Our body accumulates toxic materials over time, which means that the nutrients that we intake get polluted. The end effect is not the desired one. And these toxics cause organs to malfunction. Small malfunctions add up to reduce our quality of life - without any apparently big disease. Slowly, larger malfunctions manifest in the form of diseases.
Seven days of body cleansing prepares your body for functioning better again. Don't we all service our equipments? We need to do something similar for our body.
If you suffer from some disease/disorder, then indeed you are advised not to follow this diet regime blindly.
But otherwise, you definitely do not starve your body when you follow this diet. Our body has enough reserves!

Yes beef is replaced by 1 cup of cooked rice. its not white rice. its brown rice one cup only. Plain brown rice u cant eat, so u can prepare gravy with onion ,ginger ,garlic, tomato

Its my first day of the diet today, I dont think its one cup uncooked rice, coz thas will be too much, its definately one cup cooked.

I just completed it today and lost 4 kgs
I did not strictly followed it but i took care to drink lot of water... more than 10 -12 glasses each day.
I ate extra rice, instead of 1 bowl, I ate nearly 2 bowl (feast,,,,,,)
On third day, it was getting difficult to continue as i was loosing controlll but i resisted and from forth day on... i did not feel any discomfort...
today ,,i was 4 kg less.....
not bad at all....I am feeling lighter and I think i can continue similar diet for a week next month also....
hi, I also started on monday. Today is day3 for me. Till now I have followed strictly. Day 1 I had headaches, day2 was ok. Day3 -Feeling very sleepy today.

did anybody prepare the soup.If prepared,can we add salt and pepper.can anybody tell details how to do the soup ?do we have to just mix all the contents and boil it.that's it.

You can simply boil the vegetables and mash and filter. Add salt and pepper to taste. Ensure that the quantity of salt is as little as you can manage.

This is a wonderful diet proram, and this is the third time i am following it. In the earlier times, i lost 6 kgs and 8 kgs. This time, i am in my 5th day today, and i have already lost 4 kgs. What i have learnt is that, if this diet is followed strictly, then you have got a better chance of losing more weight. But, it doesnt do any harm to have some innovations in the diet, becuase, ultimately, we will have great results, if we complete the 7 days, with some compromose as well.

Can we workout when we are following this GM diet? In vegetabkes could you recommend which ones are better?
i see no meat being eaten in this diet anywhere but i read the comments and many say eating beef, chicken, or even lentils??? i'm on day 3 today i soon would like to know when i'm supposed to have any of these or should i not need to worry about it.
Meet is being replaced by rice in the vegetarian variant of this diet.

I started the diet for the first time 4 days ago. I feel good but I am having bad headaches. Is that normal? I made the soup this morning. Can I eat the soup on any day?

Well, yes! :)
At this age, you should really be worried more about where your next burst of calorie-burning-sport-activity is going to come from! You are too you to think about diets. It is for people you have really messed up their systems with lame excuses like "I've been too involved in work!"
Please eat healthy (that is, lots of fruits and leafy vegetables), drink lots of water, and play a lot. And study too.

I did the GM diet and lost 6 lbs even if I wasn't faithful on the 6th and 7th day. You see, they fell on a weekend so the temptation was too much for me. On hindsight, maybe I could have lost the maximum lbs if I pursued it to the end?
I am not a water-drinker; nor do I get any physical exertion. But I felt good just the same. I wasn't hungry at any point, maybe just "tired" of the menu.
I have not gained back any of the lost lbs and I will start it again to prepare my body for the expected holiday treats and feasts!
Hi everybody! This is my second round of GM diet. My name is Anita.
I wanted to let everybody know a few facts about beef and the real substitute for vegetarians.Beef contains:
Zinc
Phosphoros
Iron
Protein
Riboflavin
Thaimin
B6
B12
Niacin
Fat
Surprisingly the only vegetable/fruit that contains all this is avacado,except for B12, which none of the vegetables or fruits have, it comes from animal meat only.
Rice has riboflavin, niacin and thaimine and so may have been chosen to substitute Beef. But protein is missing in rice and so has to be combined with any kind of dal to compensate.Moong dal and chana dal are the best, or soy or kidney beans are good too.
Coming to Banana, the best substitute for this would be Kiwi as it consists of almost all nutrients that banana has.

I started gm diet today... so far i didn't feel tired...it looks good
i also started today... this day looks ok..thogh the lack of coffee is resulting in a slight headache.
How is it going for you?
You can have black coffee with whitener or 2 tblsp of skimmed milk or 1% milk to a mug of coffee, add honey instead of sugar or just 1/2 tsp of sugar.You wn't effect the diet much.(This is my second time of GM diet, I'm on my third day)Headache demotivates you and hence you won't be able to enjoy the good that this diet does to you.
Today is my day 3. So far so good. But i cannot drink more than a litre of water. Can I add a little of butter milk to taste while drinking water. Also can I have a little of tea in the morning without which I get headache. Till today I was having it. I didn't check the weight as yet.
I also want to know what diet is to be followed after day 7
Today's the banana and milk day. Still feel ok, and I must say I didn't feel hungry at all over the last three days. Looking forward to day 7 and checking the scales.
I am now on day 2 of the diet. Lost around 1 kilo. Yesterday was feeling a bit tired towards evening, but today feel quite fresh. No side-effects so far. I have high uric acid so worried about day 5 and 6 about taking beef

Good to know you are feeling good! All the best for the remaining part of the diet! Make sure you drink a lot of water, which should flush out a lot of your uric acid.
Are we allowed to eat avocado? and which replacements can one make in the soup?
You can eat avacado instead of rice on day 5 and 6, if you are not a beef eater, because almost all that you have in beef is there in avacado.
I did this diet couple of times.Trust me u will love u'r body after doing this diet.You gain confidence.I did this diet along with exercise i.e yoga - morning ,brisk walking - evening.The results were amazing.I lost 5kgs.After my 1st baby i am doing now again.

I can't take any dairy, what can I use instead?
Try soy milk.
I think a non-dairy milk (as long as it has added nutrients) and perhaps a calcium supplement would be okay.
You have to eat 8 bananas and 3 glasses of milk on 4th day so you can combine milk and bananas and have it as shake and may be it works for you.

I have completed this diet program before one week.After following it almost strictly for seven days,I lost 2.5 Kg weight and able to maintain it without much extra efforts.Still I have some questions in mind,can you please help??
1.Does the weight loss depend on how overweight you are before starting diet?I was 75Kg and 164 cm before staring.
2.Is the wonder soup must in the diet?I had it only two times in seven days.
3.1 cup of uncooked rice become s sufficient amount after cooking.Is it not more?Or it is only 1 cup of cooked rice?
Other important tips as you mentioned earlier will definitely help maintaining reduced weight-
1.I believe 10-12 glasses of water is must and everyone should try to drink even on normal days.
2.30 minutes of exercise(even brisk walking) will be sufficient and should be continued after the diet program also.
3.Eating at least 3-4 Hrs before going to bed is good habit.
Though I lost only 2.5 Kg weight,I feel lighter than before and my tummy has reduced by 1 Inch.

This programme i sreally a wonder. i have tried it thrice on different timings in 6 months. every time i reduced approx. 5 Kgs. I could not maintain the weight loss that is a different issue.
Can u suugest me how to maintain after the programe.
