Gandhi on vegetarianism

Vegetarianism is simply another way of life - a lifestyle choice. Many people believe in it and feel strongly about it. Many do exactly the opposite. Being a vegetarian, one can predict what my views would be like.

Many a famous people are vegetarians by choice - with their own reasons for this style of living. Gandhiji was amongst one of the most influential people to have experimented with and commented on extensively on vegetarianism. So, before one passes any judgement on vegetarianism, it would be apt to read someone who has seen both sides and recorded experiences and views extensively.

Here are two more links I came across commenting on Gandhi's views

Weight loss diets?

It is a sign of our times that the term weight loss diets has acquired an almost super-star status! What does it really mean to you?

There's an entire universe of context behind this phrase. Overweight, unhealthy, lethargic, bloated, low self-esteemed existence of us modern-day humans evolving (devolving?) from our supposedly healthy, natural lifestyles in the African jungles!

Weight loss is a very inappropriate way of describing a solution for our unhealthy lifestyles. Weight gain is simply a manifestation of something deeper. Did I say what? Unhealthy lifestyles. That's again a very much loaded term, and the object of very many subjective views. So, let me not dwell on that in this very short blog post.

General Motors Weight Loss Diet (Vegetarian Variant)

The following diet and health program was apparently developed for the employees and the dependants of General Motors Inc.
The program was developed in conjunction with the grant from the US Department of Agriculture and the Food and Drug Administration. It was first tried at the Johns Hopkins Research Centre and was approved for distribution by the Board of Directors of General Motors Corporation at a general meeting on August 15, 1995.
General Motors Corporation wholly endorsed this program and is making it available to all employees and families. This program will be available at all General Motors Food service facilities.
It is the management’s intention to facilitate a welfare and fitness program for everyone.
