No, this is not about searching this site. It’s about my thoughts about search. How it has been. How it is. And how it can be. Or should be. I am no authority, so take the should be part with some bags of salt and pepper.
Search is too generic a term. It could be used to imply any kind of search. But I am essentially interested in searching for relevant information – from almost anywhere. Either the web, or a local network, and even the local computer. By extension, I am also interested in information management. A well managed infobase makes for a well-behaved start for a well-implemented search strategy. Information management is tricky. Making sense of linguistic data has been everyone’s pet nightmare for quite some time. Make no mistake! There are too many intelligent people working on this aspect of search (understanding data for search), but I still feel it’s more a nightmare than a soon-to-be-realized dream.
So, here I am. Writing about search. You might want to explore whatever little I have here right now. For example, broken search. And keep checking for more. As always, feedback and comments are most welcome. And they spur me to write more!
